Tech signs graduate transfer Homan

Homan joins a newcomer class of seven

BLACKSBURG Virginia Tech head coach Marci Byers announced Wednesday the signing of graduate transfer Ashley Homan from Alabama, joining the Hokies after a one-year stint at SMU and most recently three seasons in Tuscaloosa.

 

Homan will be the second graduate student to join Tech for the upcoming season, with Natasha Vipond (Lafayette) signing in April. Homan will be one of seven student-athletes who have committed to the Hokies for the 2020-21 campaign.

The full class includes Emily Campe, Kirah Johnson, Brie Postema, Mara Perry, Cierra Huntley and then Homan and Vipond.

High School: Brenham High School volleyball alum …Notched three-time All-District … AVCA Under Armour Watch list in 2015 … Back-to-back bi-district finalist in 2012 & 2013 … Consecutive top-five finishes at USAV nationals …Was a member of the Willowbrook club volleyball team.

 

SMU: Competed on the Southern Methodist University volleyball team in 2016 … Started five times as freshman along with 14 match appearances … Ended the season with 49 kills, 13 digs and 10 blocks … Helped lead SMU to 26 wins, including an NCAA Tournament appearance and victory over Texas A&M in the First Round. 

 

Alabama: Played for the Crimson Tide from 2017 through 2019 … Appeared in six matches in her first year at Alabama … Helped 'Bama garner 18 wins in 2017 … redshirted in 2018 … Appeared in 20 matches in 2019 … Record a career-high 11 kills against Colgate in her final season for the Crimson Tide … Tallied career-high four aces versus Arkansas in 2019 … Led Bama to 30 wins in her two seasons in Tuscaloosa.


Personal: Ashley Homan … Born Jan. 21, 1998 … Daughter of Jerry and Amber Homan … Sister to her twin brother Jon along with her eldest brothers James and Josh … Made the President's list three times at Alabama … Dean's list five times at 'Bama … Finished with a 4.0 and completed her master's degree in sports business management … Expected to earn a masters of agriculture leadership at Tech.
