BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Athletics has announced that for the Hokies' final home game student sections in Lane Stadium will change from reserved seats to general admission seating. With how the upcoming holiday could potentially impact attendance, general admission seating will allow students who remain in Blacksburg and have a game ticket the opportunity to sit in their desired student seating section.

General admission seating for students in Cassell Coliseum was recently implemented, and based on the results of the final home football game, will potentially happen for football in 2020 and beyond.

Due to the anticipated demand for access to the North end zone, wristbands will be distributed at the entrance to Gate 7 until maximum capacity in those sections has been reached. All other students will be asked to sit in the student sections in the East stands.

Changes were made to the student entrance process earlier this year because of concerns surrounding fan and staff safety and incidents which needed to be addressed. Contrary to misinformation surrounding the process, all student ticket locations were, and always have been, assigned at random. Class year, GPA, attendance rate, etc. do not carry any weight in the process.

Student season ticket holders will still receive their ticket to the game against Pitt via email. Students without student season tickets can enter the single-game student ticket lottery that is now open.

FAQs and Information for Students:
●      How do I get into the North end zone stands? It's simple! Be one of the first students inside Lane Stadium, grab your wristband as you enter through Gate 7, and get loud. Once capacity has been reached, for your own safety we will not be able to allow additional people into those stands.

●      What if I was already assigned a student seat in the North stands? Unfortunately, you are not guaranteed a seat in the North stands for the Pitt game. You are encouraged to arrive early to secure your spot! If you do not receive a wristband and access to the North stands, you and the other students will be asked to find an open seat in one of the student sections within the East stands.

●      What if I want to sit in the East stands and not the North stands? No problem! Just head right into the East stands and find any seat you want in the designated student section. Event staff workers will be lining the staircases to help direct you to your sections.

●      What if I was already assigned a student seat somewhere other than the North stands? The same rules apply as everywhere else. If you want to sit in the North stands, you have to be one of the first students in the building before the capacity is reached. If you do not want to sit in the North stands, simply head to the East stands and grab any seat within the student section.
●      Why make this change now? There are two main reasons. 1. We have an opportunity to test all of these processes for next year. 2. We know students were finding ways to get into the North stands previously and many students have asked for general admission seating to simplify the process.

●      What if I'm in a group and want to sit together? You can! It just may not be exactly where your seats were previously assigned. We encourage you to arrive together.

●      What if I want to sit with a friend? We'd encourage anyone who wants to sit together to come to the game together so that you can either sit in the North or the East together, based on available inventory at the time of entrance.

●      What gate do I use? Students can enter any gate but will only be provided wristbands for the North stands at Gate 7.
